This impressive Wild Man of the Woods Mask by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Stan Hunt was hand-carved from red cedar in 1997. It is painted in green, red, black and yellow acrylic and adorned with horse-hair for the hair.
This mask shows very minor signs of wear, including a spot of worn paint, two small indents and a small area above the right side of the mouth that was originally carved through and has been artist repaired. The mask has been touched up by Stan's son, Trevor Hunt, another renowned Northwest Coast carver. The wear mentioned above are reflected in the price. Please see images for close-ups.
This Bakwus mask not including the hair measures approximately 16 inches or 40 1/2 centimeters long, 17 inches or 43 1/4 centimeters wide, and 10 inches or 25 1/2 centimeters deep. Including the hair the mask is about 26 inches or 66 centimeters long.
