Spirits of the West Coast Art Gallery is a family-owned business situated in the Comox Valley for over 15 years that provides an authentic Indigenous experience through curating, promoting, and selling authentic, hand-made, one-of-a-kind, First Nations artwork and jewelry. We represent over 100 Northwest Coast artists and work together with a variety of local mentors and professionals who share our passion and love for Northwest Coast First Nations cultures, art, and artists.
Our mission is to be an ally to First Nations artists and communities, building collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships with artists who work in their traditional communities and are actively involved in their cultures. We aim to utilize our gallery resources to uplift and amplify the voices of Northwest Coast artists and promote their artwork and cultures worldwide. Job Description
Spirits of the West Coast Art Gallery is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic individual to join our team long term as part-time Art Gallery Retail & Marketing Specialist. The ideal candidate will have a passion for people, arts, and culture, be self-motivated, organized, and communicate well verbally and in writing. A keen interest in Northwest Coast Indigenous arts and culture is paramount! Qualified candidates should be enthusiastic about the arts and have a degree, diploma, or equivalent combined experience in business, tourism, retail sales, marketing, and/or customer service.
As the Art Gallery Retail & Marketing Specialist, your main responsibilities will be the day-to-day gallery operations, with a focus on providing excellent service to our customers, visitors, and artists. Daily tasks will include handling front of house retail sales, assisting and informing gallery visitors, careful handling and packing of artwork and jewellery, answering phone calls and emails, and maintaining the gallery space.
In addition to sales, this position will have a specialized focus on evaluating, measuring, and advancing the art gallery’s marketing and communications initiatives including digital advertising, email marketing, social media, and print materials. The environment at the gallery is one of forward thinking, creativity, adaptability, and entrepreneurship. We are always looking for opportunities for growth and development, and as Sales & Marketing Associate you will have the opportunity to directly impact those efforts.
This is not a remote position. You will be working as part of a small team, in close cooperation with the owners and other staff, in a calm, climatized and beautiful gallery environment, surrounded by inspiring art and jewellery. - Recent customer service and sales experience
- Active listening skills
- Problem Solving Skills
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience in Social Media and Email Marketing/Communications
- Experience in Online Sales and SEO an asset
