David Neel
David Neel is a multi-media artist and jeweler from the Kwakiutl tribal nation. His creative media includes wood carving, jewelry engraving, print making, and photography. He does both traditional and contemporary artwork.
David worked as a photographer in the USA, before returning to the traditions of his ancestors when he apprentices with Kwakiutl artists from his father's village of Alert Bay. He has had numerous solo exhibitions in museums and art galleries; his work is in many public collections; and he has authored two books on Native culture. He is a fifth-generation Kwakiutl artist: his ancestors include Dave Neel Sr., Ellen Neel, Mungo Martin, and Charlie James. Neel uses the work of his ancestors as the starting point for his personal vision of Northwest Native art.
