Micah Vogel was born in 1974 and is from the Makah Nation, located on the northwestern tip of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Micah specializes in Makah-style masks, rattles, totem poles and drums. He began carving at the age of nine, and at sixteen he apprenticed with Master Makah Carver Greg Colfax. By his early twenties he was an established professional carver.
In 1996 he was invited to mentor as part of the Washington State Arts Commission Folk Arts Program. Micah is passionate about mentoring youth, assisting them in forming connections with their cultural heritage, as well as their own self-esteem.
Micah has been recognized as an esteemed carver. He has won awards at the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial Show and the Indian Art Northwest Show in Portland, OR.
Today his carvings are highly valued among both collectors and galleries.
