Tom Hans

Tom Hans was born in 1925 in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii and given the Haida name “Aye Aye”. Under the guidance and encouragement of his father, Ike Hans, Tom began carving argillite at the age of thirteen. Tom was dedicated to the art of argillite carving for over fifty years, and had taught many young carvers. He was one of the most prolific argillite carver of his time, creating highly detailed carvings that often depicted legends and myths.
