After receiving a traditional K'omoks House Blessing, the Comox Valley's newest fine art destination is ready to launch. Spirits of the West Coast Native Art Gallery celebrates 10 successful years with the move to the large traditionally-inspired cedar building on Back Road that opens on Saturday, November 18th.
Offering a unique environment to purchase authentic First Nations art, this new post-and-beam gallery will continue to create a place where visitors can be inspired to learn more of BC First Nations, their cultures, artists, and art forms.
Since 2007, Spirits of the West Coast Art Gallery has played an active role in ensuring First Nations BC Coastal artwork is accessible and available by showcasing original, hand carved masks, limited edition prints as well as unique gold, silver and argillite jewellery from over 100 First Nations artists.
From his first trip around Vancouver Island, gallery owner Walter Stolting fell in love with the cultures of the Northwest Coastal First Nations. “The art and ceremonies represent a deep connection to the land,” said Walter. “Not just using land and resources, but managing those resources in a respectful way. It was here that I felt that I wanted to support First Nation artists in their communities and have a dedicated Gallery to share the gift of original carvings and artistic visions with others.”
Opening Day for the gallery is Saturday, November 18 from 12 PM to 5PM at 2696 Back Road, Courtenay. Ample parking. Everyone is welcome! Drop in and Be Inspired!
