Greg White Lightbown

Greg White is a Haida carver belonging to the Raven Clan, born in 1953 in Masset, Haida Gwaii. His great grandfather is renowned artist Charles Edenshaw (1839-1920), who is considered one of the most influential Haida artists of his time.

Greg began carving argillite in the late 1960s at a time when it was readily available and was highly collected and traded. He is one of the many artists of the 20th century who are concentrating on preserving their heritage and artistry for future generations, keeping with the traditional Haida form. He has been carving argillite for over forty years and has passed his talents down to his son, Gryn White. Greg currently resides in Masset with his family.
