Corey Bulpitt
Corey Bulpitt, also known as Ta’kiid Aayaa or "Gifted Carver”, is an artist of the Naikun Raven Clan from Haida Gwaii. He was born in Prince Rupert, BC in 1978 and comes from a long line of artists. He is the great great grandson of renowned artists Charles Edenshaw and Louis Collison. His mother Maxine Edgars is an exceptional weaver and his father Monte Stewart Burton is a metal carver.
In 1996 Corey graduated from the Langley Fine Arts School. In 1999 he returned to Haida Gwaii and spent the next three years apprenticing under his uncle, master carver Christian White, creating masks, paddles and more. He also worked for his uncle, Haida master carver Jim Hart, at the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, BC. Corey has collaborated on monumental carvings and other projects with notable carvers including Beau Dick, Dempsey Bob, Joe David, and Dwayne Simeon. Corey has carved many totem poles both collaboratively and independently.
Corey also enjoys other artistic formats and mediums including painting, jewelry, murals, illustration, and prints.
