Gus Cook

Gus Cook is a member of the Namgis tribe (in Alert Bay) of the Kwakwaka'wakw Nation.Gus became interested in art at a young age as part of the cultural programs in his elementary school.

In 2011 Gus trained with the world renown Bulgarian Silversmith Valentin Yotkovhe in the art of repoussé, which is an old European metal art form. Using these old techniques, combined with his first nations art and heritage, Gus focused on a new way to represent his culture. His mentors are - Rande Cook, William Cook, Richard Sumner, and Frank Nelson.

Before Gus started his training in silversmithing, he finished his BSc degree in Psychology from the University of Victoria.
