Ken McNeil

Ken McNeil was born in Prince Rupert, British Columbia on July 28, 1961. He grew up in Port Edward, BC, and was introduced to carving at the age of 15 by his uncle and renowned Master Carver Dempsey Bob who taught him how to carve in a strong Tlingit style. He is Tahltan-Tlingit/Nisga’a and began working in the artistic tradition of the Tahltan-Tlingit. His family crest is the Wolf. Ken enjoys working mainly in wood, specifically sculpture such as masks, frontlets, bowls, and totem poles. 

In 2006-2007 Ken assisted his uncle Dempsey Bob on a monumental project for the Vancouver International Airport entitled The Story of Fog Woman and Raven which can be viewed in the International Departure Terminal.  

Ken McNeil is one of the founding instructors of the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art in Terrace, BC. This credited course – The Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art- is the first of its kind at a college level in BC.
