Melanie Russ

Melanie Russ, born in 1977 in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii, is the daughter of renowned Haida artist Ed Russ and Faye Russ. From a young age, her parents nurtured her talent for carving, and she began working alongside her mother, creating argillite sculptures and jewelry. As one of the few female argillite carvers, Melanie is recognized for her intricate craftsmanship, which reflects her Haida lineage and rich cultural heritage.
