Nancy Dawson
Nancy is a Kwakwaka’wakw artist born in Alert Bay, BC, in 1954. Inspired by her father, a skilled wood and metal worker, she began carving poles and masks in 1980. In 1984, she studied under renowned Kwakwaka’wakw artists Tony Hunt and John Livingston. She began carving jewellery in 1990.
In 1994, Nancy was part of the team that carved the world’s largest totem pole for the Commonwealth Games in Victoria, BC. Her work can be found in private and public collections throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia.
