Whale Frontlet

Regular price $5,985.00 CAD

This beautiful 'Whale Spirits' Frontlet is hand-carved in yellow cedar and signed by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Greg Henderson from the Wei Wai Kum First Nation in Campbell River. The frontlet has been carved from one piece of yellow cedar and features green acrylic and 23 abalone inlays. It comes with a supporting whale tail display stand in black acrylic that is also carved from yellow cedar. This attaches to a base of natural red cedar finished with green acrylic.

A frontlet is a forehead mask that is worn by chiefs and high-ranking individuals as a display of crests and status. Frontlets are often decorated with materials symbolic of wealth and power: abalone shell, operculum shell, sea lion whiskers, feathers, or fur.

This frontlet measures about 6 3/4 inches or 17 cm in height, 7 1/2 inches or 19 cm wide, and 4 1/2 inches or 11.5 cm deep. The display stand is 8 1/2 inches or 22 cm long, about 6 inches or 15.5 cm wide, and about 8 inches or 21 cm high.
