This beautiful Sea Monster or Yagis (Yakis) Mask is hand-carved by Bill Henderson from the Kwakwaka´wakw or Kwakiutl Nation. It has been carved from red cedar, painted in acrylic, and features an articulated jaw, 4 copper teeth, and a total of 23 inlays of abalone.
Yagis is one of many Kwakwaka'wakw Sea Monsters capable of causing storms, waves, and dangerous whirlpools. The dance of the Yagis is characterized by movements akin to a Sea Mammal, surfacing and breathing. The copper and abalone on this mask are also indications of great wealth.
The mask measures approximately 22 inches or 56 centimeters high, 16 inches or 40 1/2 centimeters wide, and 10 1/2 inches or 26 1/2 centimeters deep.
The price includes shipping to the USA and Canada.
