This Frog Pendant was hand-carved by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Shawn Karpes in 1997. It had been intricately carved in wood, with one piece of abalone onlay for the background, and two bundles of cedar bark attached to each side. It has been painted in red, green, white, blue and black acrylic. The back of the pendant has been signed by the artist. The pendant hangs from an attached leather necklace.
The Frog symbolizes wealth and abundance. When a Frog is portrayed in art with his tongue touching another creature, it represents the sharing of knowledge and power.
