This Winter's Approach print is from the Artist Proof Edition of 12, Released September 2005. Most years you can hear them before you can see them: Honk! Honk! Honk! Its enough to drive many nuts. Their sight, like their sound, is also unmistakeable. Flying in “V” formation to save energy while flying, they appear with the coming of both spring and fall. Summer days may be in full swing, but when the Canada Goose flys overhead, it’s an instant reminder that Winter’s Approach has arrived. The naxak, or Canada Goose, was traditionally eaten by my Comox and Kwakwaka’wakw ancestors. They would hunt for these birds at night with a small fire on board a canoe. The geese would stare into the light as the canoe approached, unaware of the hunters hidden onboard. When the moment was right, the hunters would throw a framed net over the geese, trapping them. “Winter's Approach” is a limited edition print using the giclée method of printmaking. This print was released in September of 2005 and printed by Andy Everson at the artist’s own studio in Comox B.C. A total of 133 prints bear the title “Winter's Approach” and are signed by Andy Everson: 120 in the primary edition bearing the numbers 1/120 through 120/120; 12 Artist’s Proofs; and 1 Printer’s Proof. The acid-free 100% cotton Royal Riviera Rag paper measures 9.5x13 inches. Image size measures about 8x11.25 inches.
