Argillite Raven Pipe

This beautiful Raven Argillite Pipe is masterfully carved by an unknown earlier Haida Master Carver. The pipe is unsigned and in excellent condition. The argillite stand is new and was carved by Haida Artist Darrell White. The pipe has some very unique carved design elements that give us clues about the carver. The most obvious are the carved-out two rings on the top portion of the pipe head as well as the two rings where the ivory mouthpiece slides into the argillite. This design element is continued on both ends of the mouthpiece. Even though we have had many carvers as well as collectors and scholars look at this piece, not one recognized the maker of this carving. For that reason most are of the opinion that it is an older carving. The pipe including the mouthpiece is 5 3/4 inches long, 1 3/4 inches high and a little over 1 inch wide. It weighs a little over 4 1/2 ounces or 128 grams. The stand is 7 inches long, 1 inch high and a little over 1 inch wide. Both the pipe and stand together weigh close to 10 1/2 ounces or 300 grams. The argillite pipe has not been smoked.

The price includes shipping to the USA and Canada.
