Haida Raven Steals the Light Argillite Pendant

$270.00

This Haida Raven Steals the Light Pendant is carved in Argillite, with two abalone inlays. It is carved and signed by the Master Carver Ron Russ from the Haida Nation. This pendant is a little over 1 3/4 of an inch or over 4 1/2 centimeters wide, a little over 1 1/4 of an inch or over 3 centimeters long and up to 1/4 of an inch or 1/2 a centimeter thick. It weighs about 0.43 ounces or 12 grams and was carved in December 2007. The price includes shipping to the USA and Canada.

The pendant is an interpretation of the story on how the Raven stole the light in the form of the sun, the moon and stars. Many say that long ago in the time of darkness, Raven found out where the light was hidden and stole it back from an old chief who had kept the light hidden in his house locked away in a large bentwood box. After Raven escaped with the light through the smoke hole of the house, he placed the sun, the moon and the stars in the sky for all beings to enjoy. Originally all Ravens had white feathers and after flying through the smoke hole with the light, his feathers turned black and stayed black until today.
