Sea Wolf or Wasco Mask


This very unique Sea Wolf or Wasco Mask is carved in red cedar wood by Native Artist Stan Greene from the Coast Salish Nation. The mask is signed and dated 2005. It depicts a very powerful Sea Monster that is Half Wolf and Half Killer Whale. In Haida Mythology the Wasco had the ability to move both in the water as well as on land. It hunts and eats Killer Whales. He was known for terrorizing many Haida Villages that were situated along the coastline of Haida Gwaii.  The teeth are made out of bone, the tongue is made out of leather, and it features an abalone inlay in the blow hole on the top of the head as well as horse hair on the fin. The mask is about 19 inches high, 25 1/2 inches wide and about 15 1/2 inches deep without the tongue. The price includes shipping to the USA and Canada.
