John Livingston
John Livingston was an adopted Kwakwaka’wakw Master Carver born in Vancouver, BC in 1951. He was taught to carve by Kwakwaka'wakw carver Henry Hunt and his son Tony Hunt in the early 1970s when he apprenticed alongside Calvin Hunt carving poles at Thunderbird Park. The Hunt family taught him about the basics of design and carving techniques and eventually Tony Hunt and John Livingston opened the Arts of the Raven Gallery and the Raven Arts workshop for Northwest Coast artists in Victoria, BC.
Livingston worked on many large totem poles throughout his career and also worked as an art appraiser and restorer. He is well remembered for sharing his knowledge with students and tutors.
John Livingston passed away on March 9th, 2019.
