This striking Haida Gold and Abalone Repoussé Orca Pendant is handmade by Haida artist Derek White from the Haida Nation. The pendant has been hand-carved and hammered in 18 karat gold and features two abalone inlays for the eyes. The repoussé (hammered) finish adds dimensionality and a textured finish to the gold surface.
The Orca or Killer Whale symbolizes family, romance, longevity, harmony, travel, community and protection. He is said to protect those who travel away from home, and to lead them back when the time comes. Orcas will often stay their whole life with the same pod and raise each calf with care.
