This Orca or Killer Whale Bentwood Box is carved out of yellow and red cedar by Junior Henderson from the Kwakwaka'wakw Nation.
The deeply carved yellow cedar sides represent the orca's head with a dorsal fin, as well as a tail fin design. The red cedar top is carved with a blow hole design and decorated with abalone on the sides.
The Orca or Killer Whale symbolizes family, romance, longevity, harmony, travel, community and protection. He is said to protect those who travel away from home, and to lead them back when the time comes. Orcas will often stay their whole life with the same pod and raise each calf with care.
