Thunderbird Orca and Chief Totem Pole
This Northwest Coast Totem Pole stands over 8 feet high and features a Thunderbird, an Orca (or Killer Whale), a Chief and a Cod Fish on the bottom of the pole. The Totem or Crest Pole is carved in red cedar and painted by renowned artist Calvin Hunt of the Kwakwaka'wakw Nation.
The Thunderbird Symbol represents power, protection, and strength. He is often seen as the most powerful of all spirits and can also transform into human form by opening his head up like a mask and taking his feathers off as if they were a mere blanket. Under his wings are lightning snakes, which he can use as a tool or weapon.

The Orca or Killer Whale symbolizes family, romance, longevity, harmony, travel, community and protection. He is said to protect those who travel away from home, and to lead them back when the time comes. Orcas will often stay their whole life with the same pod and raise each calf with care.

The Totem pole is over 98 inches or 250 centimeters high, up to 54 1/2 inches or over 138 centimeters wide including the wings and up to 22 inches or 56 centimeters deep. Without the wings, the pole is up to 15 inches or 38 centimeters wide.
The totem pole was commissioned by Hereditary Chief Norman Frank from the K'omoks First Nation and carved in 1988. After Chief Norman Frank passed away, the pole was left to his son Hereditary Chief Kerry Frank from the K'omoks First Nation. Since 1988 the pole has been displayed in a place of honour inside Norman Frank's home and is in excellent condition.
The proceeds of the sale of this beautiful totem pole will help finance the commission of a much larger memorial pole for the late Chief Norman Frank.
One of the images includes a recent picture of the artist Calvin Hunt, that carved the pole in 1988. Calvin is Hereditary Chief Tłasutiwalis, Kwakwaka'wakw from Fort Rupert as well as Hereditary Chief Nasnamus, Mowachaht of Friendly Cove.
