Don Lancaster
Don Lancaster was born in 1965 and is a member of the Kwakwaka’wakw First Nation. His family crest symbols include the Sun, Sisiutl, and the Wolf, three important crests within the Kwakwaka’wakw tradition.
Don developed an interest in Northwest Coast art at a young age. While still in school, he began carving metal under the guidance of his uncle, Norman Seaweed, who has significantly influenced his work.
Now residing in Victoria, BC, with his family, Don continues to create distinctive works that reflect the Kwakwaka’wakw tradition while incorporating his own contemporary style. His highly individualistic pieces are carved using simple hand tools, many of which have been passed down through his family for generations.
Don also remains actively involved in cultural events, maintaining a strong connection to his cultural heritage and artistic traditions.
