This striking Wild Man of the Woods or Bakwus Mask by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Johnathan Henderson (Wa̱'nu'kw) is hand-carved in red cedar and painted in red, green, light green, yellow, white, brown, and black acrylic. The mask has been finished with horsehair.

The Bukwus or Wild Man of the Woods is an eerie supernatural creature from the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation. This figure can be found lurking at the edge of a stream or in the shadows of the forest, always in search of souls that he can steal for himself.
