Fred Wilson
Freddie Wilson, Haida name Skundaal, was born in 1983 in Queen Charlotte City, Haida Gwaii and is from the Raven Clan. He is the son of established argillite carver Cooper Wilson and the brother of Haida artist Donnie Edenshaw. As an artist, Freddie is inspired by his brother and his father, as well as Haida artists Christian White, Jim Hart, Gwaai Edenshaw, and his uncle, Guujaaw.
Freddie works in both traditional and non-traditional forms. For example, he carved a miniature skateboard from argillite with trade-bead wheels, and a Chinese flying dragon with a red tongue carved from catlinite.
Freddie is also branching out into wood and metal carving. In 2009, Freddie graduated from Vancouver's Northwest Coast Jewellery Arts program under established Kwakwaka'wakw/Haida artist Dan Wallace.
Freddie was also featured in Breathing Stone by Carol Sheehan, a book on argillite carving.
