Keith Wolfe Smarch
Keith Wolfe Smarch (Shakoon) is a Tlingit artist born in Whitehorse, Yukon, in 1961. He began carving in 1981 under the guidance of renowned Tahltan/Tlingit artist Dempsey Bob. His work is deeply influenced by the formal elements of Northwest Coast design, including the ovoid, U-shape, and split-U, which he regards as almost sacred, as well as the stories, songs, and dances of Tlingit culture.
A strong believer in the importance of cultural education, Keith dedicates much of his time to sharing his artistic skills and cultural knowledge with others. His work is held in public and private collections around the world, including the private collection of Charles, Prince of Wales.
