Mike Sedgemore from the Kwakwaka'wakw Nation.
Born in 1967, Mike has been creating contemporary art that reflects the themes and traditions of his First Nations Komoyue and Tlingit heritage for over 20 years. His great grandmother, A'neesla'ga, was a Tlingit noblewoman from Alaska. He combines Kwakwaka'wakw and Tlingit influences in his work. Mike's works include engraved gold and silver jewellery and accessories, wood carvings, and paintings.
Mike's rich family history includes internationally renowned First Nations artists Corrine, Henry and Tony Hunt, all of whom have influenced his art. Fah Ambers was also an early teacher and mentor. Mike has also mentored other First Nations artists and continues to be a strong and vocal supporter of the arts in British Columbia. Originally from Alert Bay, Mike now makes Comox his home.
