This Seal Head Sculpture was hand-carved and painted by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Rod Smith. The blue and white sculptures have been carved from basswood, while the green sculpture has been carved from red cedar. Each seal head is painted in acrylic and features synthetic whiskers. Rod is perhaps best known for his precise and elegant painting style, which can be seen on this sculpture.
The sculpture, excluding the whiskers, measures approximately 5 inches or 12 1/2 centimeters high, 4 1/2 inches or 11 1/2 centimeters wide, and 3 1/4 inches or 8 1/4 centimeters deep. Including the whiskers, the sculpture measures 5 inches or 12 1/2 centimeters high, 5 inches or 12 1/2 centimeters wide, and 8 1/2 inches or 21 1/2 centimeters deep.
