Vince Shaughnessy
Vince Shaughnessy of the Nimpkish band was born in 1959 in Alert Bay. Since he was a child he was told and taught about his cultural ways and practices. Therefore he is highly aware of the stories and myths of his people and can portray them through his art.
Vince began carving wood in 1973 at the Arts of the Raven Shop under the supervision of Calvin Hunt and Jonathan Livingston. He has carved alongside master carvers, Beau Dick and Wayne Alfred. In 1988 he assisted with the rebuilding of the Big House.
Vince’s grandfather, Arthur Shaughnessy was a hereditary Chief of Kingcome Inlet and a very well-known artist in his lifetime.
