This vintage Argillite Salmon Bowl was carved and signed by Haida Artist Rufus Moody, probably in the 1970's. The bowl is in very good condition and has no visible chips or other damage. The Salmon has been carved very deeply into the argillite bowl.
The Salmon symbolizes abundance, fertility, prosperity and renewal. For thousands of years, Salmon have been the primary food source for Northwest Coast Native Americans and are highly respected.

The bowl weighs a little over 10 1/2 ounces or 300 grams and is close to 6 inches or 15 centimeters wide, 2 1/2 inches or 6 1/2 centimeters long and 3/4 of an inch or 2 centimeters high.
