Oscar Matilpi
Oscar (Ozzie) Johnson Matilpi, son of Ned and Grace Matilpi (née Hunt) was born in Freshwater Bay, BC in 1933. Oscar worked for many years as a fisherman, logger, and later in life, as an artist and carver. Oscar was taught to carve by his brother-in-law Henry Hunt Sr.
Oscar worked with Henry Hunt at Thunderbird Park in Victoria in the 1960s alongside other great artists including Richard Hunt, Tony Hunt Sr., and John Livingston. He passed away on February 29, 1999, in Victoria, BC.
