This exquisite 1 1/4 inch Haida Bear Bracelet has been hand-carved and hammered in 14 karat gold by Haida artist Derek White. The repoussé (hammered) finish adds a wonderful dimensionality and textured finish to the gold surface. The bracelet is about 7 1/2 inches long and weighs over 74 grams.
In the Haida culture, the Bear is known as “Elder Kinsman” and is treated as a noble guest. Legend says that a First Nations chief’s daughter fell in love with and married a Bear, who happened to be the nephew of the Great Bear Chief. She gave birth to twin bear cubs and was known as the Bear Mother.
