Mosquito Mask

$1,600.00 CAD

This Mosquito Mask was hand-carved in 1994 by Stan Greene from the Coast Salish Nation. It has been carved from red cedar, painted in red, black, and white acrylic, and features fur for the eyebrows.

As a biting insect, the Mosquito is viewed by many as an enemy of humankind. Some legends feature blood-sucking or man-eating monsters transforming into mosquitoes and biting flies after their deaths. The prickly nature of these insects is reflected in this mask's adornment with removable porcupine quills.

The mask with the quills measures 13 inches or 33 centimeters high, 18 inches or 45 3/4 centimeters wide, and 12 inches or 30 1/2 centimeters deep. Without the quills, the mask measures 7 1/2 inches high, 10 inches wide, and 12 inches deep.
