Star Frontlet and Headdress Sculpture

$9,800.00 CAD

This stunning Sculpture was hand-carved by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Junior Henderson of the Wei Wai Kum First Nation in Campbell River, BC. The headdress was hand-sewn by his mother, Lorrain Henderson.

This Sculpture features three unique elements. The stand is a semi-abstract bust hand-carved in red cedar with the bottom painted in black acrylic. On the head of the base rests a headdress, with rabbit fur and ermine pelts (traditionally used for this type of headdress) that have been hand-sewn by Junior's mother. On top of the headdress Junior added down feathers (to mimic Eagle feathers) and 8 peacock feathers. On the front of the headdress is a hand-carved and painted alder wood Star Frontlet adorned with 23 inlays of abalone.

This sculpture, including the stand, headdress, frontlet, and feathers, measures approximately 36 inches or 91 1/2 centimeters high, 10 inches or 25 1/2 centimeters wide, and 11 inches or 28 centimeters deep.
