This impressive Chief of the Undersea World or Komokwa Mask is painted and carved in red cedar by Master Carver Bill Henderson from the Kwakwaka´wakw Nation. The mask features 16 abalone inlays, two bunches of cedar bark, and a finely tooled radiating crown. It features dark green, red, maroon and black acrylic. In Kwakwaka'wakw Mythology Komokwa is the powerful chief of the Supernatural Undersea People who lives in a house under the sea filled with riches. Komokwa (or Kumugwe) means "Wealthy One".
The mask is about 21 inches or 53 centimeters high, about 16.5 inches or 42 centimeters wide and about 10.5 inches or 26 centimeters deep.
