This Kumugwe or Chief of the Undersea People Mask is carved in red cedar by Karver Everson from the K’ómoks and Kwaguł First Nation. In Kwakwaka'wakw mythology, Kumugwe is the powerful chief of the Supernatural Undersea People who lives in a house under the sea filled with riches. Kumugwe (or Komokwa) means "Wealthy One".
This mask has been painted in acrylic and adorned with copper and abalone. The mask is about 18.5 inches or 47 cm wide, 20 inches or 51 cm long, and 8 inches or 20.5 cm deep.
