This 'Family of Hummingbirds' Bentwood Box is by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Trevor Hunt. This bentwood box has bottom and sides made of yellow cedar and a lid of red cedar. It has been painted in purple, red and black acrylic on all four sides with a beautiful hummingbird design.
Bentwood boxes are unique to the First Nations people of the Northwest Coast. Boxes are made from a single plank of red or yellow cedar that is grooved on each corner, steam-bent and then folded to form the four sides. The two ends are pegged together before the addition of the base and the lid. This ingenious method makes the boxes both beautiful and watertight.
With the red cedar lid, this box is about 7 1/2 inches or 19 centimeters high and is about 7 inches or 18 centimeters wide on each side.
The price includes shipping to the USA and Canada.
